About Block printing
Using simple tools like carved linoleum, hemps, linens & natural dyes we’ve devoted our trademark natural upholstery fabric and sustainable arts & crafts style.
We’ve continued our journey into sustainable textiles, inspired by my research and ground breaking book about pioneering 1930’s block printers & textile designers Phyllis Barron & Dorothy Larcher – ‘Barron & Larcher – Textile Designers’.
These extraordinary women pioneered a unique English interior design style – bringing together striking modern patterns with a rustic colour palette, drawn from natural dyes. A process which they mastered in their beautiful natural upholstery fabrics.
We’ve built on their muted colours of browns, greys & blues by continuing their use of natural dyes for fabric and we’re proud of the way we’ve developed the craft of natural dyeing for textile and creating our own range of sustainable upholstery fabrics.
We want to create contemporary block printed fabric and love 20th century designers like Enid Marx & Peggy Angus – who inspire with their large repeats, bold graphics & joyful patterns.
To this aesthetic we’ve added our seasonal, earthy, natural dyed colours and hope we have created a printed upholstery collection, which brings both pattern & some rustic arts & crafts harmony into your home.
All our fabrics are handmade to order and we are happy to create bespoke pattern & colour combinations – so please do be in touch if you would like to commission your own special patterned fabric.
